Pennie has allowed me to work enough to add to my pension, pay my bills and have some left over for groceries and miscellaneous expenses. I can continue to be somewhat active without punishing my body in the process. Pennie has been a lifesaver, and I pray the subsidies will continue

I am a single 59-year-old woman, and I cannot afford to pay more for my health benefits. I would have to quit my job, which I love, to qualify for help with health care benefits. This does not seem to make sense to me.

Both me and my husband are self-employed, so this is the only way for us to have health insurance. I used to work for a small event company, but insurance wasn’t an option through them, and I started my own gardening business 3 years ago and am still in the growth phase, continuously adding customers to get to where I want to be income-wise. I hired my first employee this year.
Between property taxes, mortgage, utilities, groceries, and our child’s school tuition, we’re struggling to make ends meet. I just had my first mammogram which required a follow-up diagnostic, and the out-of-pocket cost was $400. I had put it off for 3 years knowing it was an extra (and unknown) expense that I was struggling to plan for. And forget dental costs. We are not sick people; we don’t have any conditions requiring prescriptions or ongoing care. Yet, we simply will not be able to afford health insurance if the cost goes up even another $100 than we’re currently paying; Pennie recently advised us we could expect to pay 86% more next year; that’s $1360/mo. That puts us out of options. So, I guess you could count us as one of next year’s uninsured if Congress fails to act.

Since I was able to afford insurance, it helped me find out I was a diabetic. With the doctor’s help I was able to keep it under control now.
Michaela, Indiana County
Without Pennie, I would not be able to afford the exorbitant insurance costs or treatments for my health needs. I am an independent contractor, single, and self-employed so I have no other options!
Tony, Indiana County
I’ve been battling Stage 4 Cancer since late 2023. Pennie coverage and the ACA’s Enhanced Subsidies allow me to stay in the fight and keep up with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. My life 100% depends on the quality health plans I can access through Pennie and the ACA’s Enhanced Subsidies that I receive.
Jason, York County
Congressional failure to extend these tax breaks will be a HUGE expense on my family and threaten my business as well. I co-own a mental health practice and both my business partner, and I receive our insurance through Pennie. Our expenses will literally go up tens of thousands of dollars, which will impact on our business bottom line and impact our ability to remain profitable. We serve hundreds of people in central PA providing quality mental health care and worry that we may have to close our doors as this law expiration will have a double impact on us. We cannot afford to have a 30K+ increase in health care costs when we’re already paying so much for coverage now.
It not only hurts hardworking middle-class Americans but also severely harms the small businesses who rely on this coverage as well as people who don’t have the ability to access employee sponsored plans. This law needs to be extended for the very life of our business and mental health of our community.

I, and my family have been lifelong conservative Republicans for 100 years going back. I understand that the country’s debt is astronomical. Cutting back on things that don’t affect people’s daily cost of living are certainly warranted. But as someone who’s paid for health insurance as an individual & then a family for about 35 years as an independent contractor ever since I got off my parent’s plan eons ago…the current monthly costs of health insurance are BEYOND what I could ever afford without help.
My folks grew up in the depression. My pop jumped out of airplanes in WWII for this country. True blue Americans for 100 years. If these plans go away…we are finished. No way we can pay for the full freight. I’m all for cutting out billions of wasted dollars for nonsense. But healthcare? No way people can pay the astronomical costs anymore. It would change lives in such a negative way that people will just give up unless someone figures out how to lower the costs.

My partner and I started a family this year and recently welcomed our little girl into the world. My coverage and tax credit through Pennie has allowed me to get excellent healthcare that supported my well-being during and after my pregnancy, all while helping me save as much of my earnings as I can for the future. If the costs rise as much as is suggested, I may not be able to afford any health insurance next year without going through my entire savings. I worry about the future of my family if I am unable to afford health insurance, even as a productive and employed Pennsylvania citizen. Every single person deserves access to fair and affordable healthcare without going bankrupt just to survive!

Pennie has made it possible to afford quality Healthcare insurance. Getting older and finding ourselves doctoring more, we would not be able to follow through with recommended treatments or medications without assistance. We are the people left out. We worked hard all our lives, paid our bills and never qualified for public assistance. Even in some troubled times, we had to scrape our way. Lazy people are given handouts like free food, money, insurance, free phones and cars. We don’t ask for much, just the ability to stay healthy given the high costs of medical care.
A. McFarland, Allegheny County
I lost my husband 6 years ago. I’m now a self-employed widow. I have no problem paying for my own insurance. I don’t want anything for free. But I absolutely cannot afford $1,000 a month for coverage. I’m 62 years old with some underlying issues. I just cannot afford to not have insurance. And trying to find a job with coverage at my age isn’t easy. Losing these credits will be devastating to me.
Linda, Cumberland County
We own a small business and cannot afford to pay a decent wage along with healthcare costs. Since we don’t offer a plan, our employees have enrolled in Pennie. Without this we can expect to lose good employees to the bigger companies Having this insurance has been a huge blessing to us and our employees Losing this insurance will be an unbearable strike against small businesses and families who may have only 1 income and cannot afford the excellent coverage Pennie has provided.
Chris, Mifflin County
Having a Health Plan through Pennie including the advance tax credit means that not only have my insurance premiums been affordable, but also that I can actually afford to see my doctors and pay my bills when I do need to use my insurance.
J. Brennan, Westmoreland County
I recently retired due to an auto accident. Currently able to handle financial costs on health insurance but unsure of future if costs are raised due to cuts in US please help with any info on who I could correspond with or any way I can reach out to help. Thank You.

I founded my own small business in 2020, after my contracts as a freelancer for non-profit organizations ended abruptly due to the pandemic. I also divorced the father of my children during that period of time, so I am not only responsible for my own income and (financial) stability, but also my children’s. The Pennie coverage, the tax credits, are essential for me. My business is slowly but steadily, and organically growing, but because I’m also fully responsible for taking care of my children, for example, literally getting them to their commitments, I have to divide my time, attention, and energy between my own well-being and my children’s well-being. I sincerely hope the tax credits remain in effect after 2025 and want to thank the system for implementing them.
Minh, Dauphin County
and I live in Pennsylvania with my wife and our two kids. Together, we make about $154,000 a year before taxes. That may seem like a lot—but with today’s prices, it doesn’t stretch far. Our mortgage is $2,099/month, and we have $1,500/month in car payments. We pay $600/month through Pennie for health insurance, which is the only plan we can afford. The insurance options through our jobs would cost around $700 every paycheck—that’s over $18,000 a year, which is simply out of reach.
Ed, Crawford County
With the Pennie insurance credits which allows me to spend time with my family. The Credits are substantial to allow me to keep health care coverage for me and my family, without them I would not be able to afford health care coverage.
Tracy, Bucks County
I am a single mom with 3 teenagers on 1 income. My lower cost insurance is very important to me to be sure I can continue to get the medical attention I need.
Amaritza, Montgomery County
Having this insurance has been a God sent for me and my husband. I lost my job 3yrs ago and have developed some health issues that this insurance has helped me so much on. It’s affordable and the co-pays are fair for our low-income home.
Jeff, Jefferson County
When I retired from my school district my intention was to stay on their insurance plan. The cost for me as an individual was going to be over $1,300 per month. Through the Pennie program, I was able to reduce that cost by approximately $10,000 per year. Pennie has been a blessing and a godsend in allowing me to have what I would call a reasonable and affordable health care plan. It is extremely disappointing and concerning to see that this program expires. I am very concerned about what next year’s costs are going to be.
Carol, Indiana County
I have been a registered nurse for my entire working years caring for the smallest vulnerable babies and their parents. I retired early so that I could take care of my mother with Alzheimer’s disease. I rely on the ACA insurance for my Healthcare. The tax credits are necessary for me to be able to afford health insurance. Without the credits, I may not be able to afford health insurance.
Amy, Somerset County
I liked Pennie insurance because it was affordable. We are a two-person household and I needed to get my own insurance because my husband retired. I still continued to work so that I could pay my insurance. We are fortunate because we are both somewhat healthy. I appreciated all that Pennie has done for our family. In January 2026, I will need to find something less expensive.
Marlene, Bradford County
If I did not have health insurance through Pennie, I would not be able to afford my medication each month. It has given me the ability to stay on my medication and see my doctor when I need it too. With the cost of living just keeps going up, it helps when you can get your health insurance at an affordable price with the help of tax credits.
Linda, Schuylkill County
Neither of our jobs offer health insurance. Without Pennie and the APTC, there is absolutely no way we can afford insurance for ourselves and are kids. We also have health issues that require constant medication… diabetes, asthma, and life-threatening food allergies. There is no way we can afford any of the necessary medications without insurance. I am truly terrified that we will not be able to afford health insurance next year and we will not be able to get the medicines needed and that is literally life threatening.
Mark, Elk County
Raising the cost of Pennie would cause me to not have insurance, it would be less expensive to pay out of pocket for my healthcare and put the monthly payment that I would send to Pennie in the bank? Hopefully nothing serious would happen regarding my health.
Logan, Clearfield County
It means a lot to my family and I to be able to have health insurance with tax credits making it more affordable. We love having health insurance through Pennie and we faced an increase this year almost double from last year and it hurt our family. It would mean a lot to be able to afford health insurance and decrease the cost. We need tax credits to help us and other families. Please help.
<strong.Katie, Lycoming County
Having affordable health insurance through Pennie is my only option for healthcare. I have been employed full-time at the same job for 11 years, where I mentor youth. However, the organization I work for is non-profit and very small and cannot offer health insurance. As a single person, I need an affordable option for healthcare, and Pennie is the only option available to me where, in tangent with applicable tax credits, I can pay an affordable premium and have health care benefits that are practical and useful. Without Pennie and the health insurance tax credits, I will not be able to afford health insurance.

I’m a single mom of 1 under age 18. I work a full-time and a part time job, 55 hours a week and still live paycheck to paycheck. I’m not sure what I’m going to do if the cost of my insurance goes up that much, I’ll probably have to drop my insurance all together. I’m already tired as it is, probably will have to work 2 full time jobs. It makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to even think about it. We as AMERICANS should NOT have to live like this!!
Patricia, Luzerne County
I have worked full-time my whole adult life. When I was 61 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My place of employment would not hold my job while I was undergoing treatment. I had 2 surgeries, chemo, radiation, and now I am on oral medication for 5 years. I was the one in our family who carried the health insurance. My husband and I went on COBRA for 18 months, paying $1700 a month. After that expired, we started on Pennie. With my pre-existing condition we rely on Pennie. We are currently not eligible for Medicare. I don’t expect free medical insurance, but it is very helpful to us with all the price increases to have our medical insurance subsidized, which we desperately need.
Laura, Lebanon County
Pennie has been a God send to me. My husband retired so I lost health coverage through his work. Pennie has been great for my coverage. I have an excellent plan that got me through surgery and doctor appointments with not much out of pocket cost to me. I hope to continue with Pennie for the next 3 years until I get on Medicare. Also, all Pennie representatives have been so helpful and kind every single time I called.
Kathy, Huntingdon County
I am a retired single divorced 59-year-old who is not eligible for Medicare and it is too expensive to get my health coverage through anywhere else. I need to be able to keep costs affordable to have insurance for myself.
Eric, Berks County
My family never had even decent health insurance until the Affordable Care Act was enacted. The loss of these benefits will most likely mean that my wife and I will go without health insurance completely. I am hoping that these politicians understand that low- and middle-class citizens will vote for every one of them out of office who doesn’t extend these benefits.
Carl, Lawrence County
I am retired and make a modest income. All my working life I had health insurance through employers. I paid a percentage of the premiums, and the employer paid the rest. I do not qualify for Medicare yet and would not be able to afford health insurance if It wasn’t for the assistance from Pennie. It is very disappointing that the government won’t make this a permanent policy to help the American people who need it be able to afford to live and still have health insurance.
Peggy, Lancaster County
My husband and I solely rely on Pennie. His employer does NOT offer health insurance. We appreciate the affordable cost through Pennie. If the cost goes up too much and we can’t afford it we’ll have to let our health take a back seat.
Charlotte, Franklin County
My husband and I are retired. He is 63 and I am 60. This low-cost insurance has been a lifesaver for us. Since we are not old enough for Medicare, this has been an affordable option for us. Without the low-cost insurance, we will not be able to have coverage and that is terrifying to us at our age, but we simply cannot afford any increase in premiums. In the long run the number of uninsured residents is going to rise as we are not the only ones who won’t be able to afford coverage, which will end up costing the country so much more money. I hope they are able to do something to help those of us who can’t afford any higher premiums.
Anne, Lackawanna County
I am unable to work full time because my husband requires a great deal of help due to his chronic illness. Having Pennie and these enhanced savings to keep my premiums affordable has been a huge help!
Darlene, Potter County
Pennie has helped us have affordable health insurance, I’m not sure what we will do in 2026 if it becomes unaffordable. With rising costs of heating and electricity, we will really have to evaluate what we can do with out .In 2023 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, having this plan helped me not to worry about my treatment costs along with able pay which made it easy to make payments on my treatment. I pray that it does not re occur , without health insurance I will not be able to fight it
Steven, Wayne County
As a small business owner and the sole income of my household I work nearly every day of the week and well over 60 hours a week, yet there are no financial perks like vacation, sick leave, retirement plan, health coverage provided, every dollar earned is stretched to cover all the bases today and for tomorrow. As I get ever closer to the age of retirement and senior status health issues rise and out of pocket costs are untenable, due to the for-profit healthcare system this country is beholden to none of us can go without insurance coverage. The lack of consideration for those of us striving for and hovering in the middle of economic classes is very difficult to manage so every little bit of assistance is crucial
Joseph, Tioga County
As a result of early retirement, Pennie has enabled us to get medical coverage at an affordable rate. Otherwise, we would have to deplete our retirement savings. The typical increases each year are a concern but to lose the credit would be a devasting factor for our finances. Pennie has been factored into our financial plans to get us to when we qualify for Medicare. To change this up is unfair to the citizens.
Christine, Centre County
Pennie was there when I needed health insurance coverage. See I’m in Recovery. Also, with mental health issues due to trauma. Pennie helped ease my mind when my other insurance gave me 3 days till they were cutting me off. Because of Pennie I can still see my trauma therapist, go to D & A outpatient group, see my D & A counselor, go to my primary doctor, and see my psychiatrist. Which I see for my mental health medications. Pennie was & still is a big help to me. If it wasn’t for them, who knows what would’ve happened to me. I will be celebrating my 2 years Sober & Clean in Recovery in September.
Robert, Warren County
I use the Pennie insurance to cover my wife, she has a history of cancer, she has had 2 bouts with breast cancer the latest was a full mastectomy in 2024, now in 2025 she had to have a full hysterectomy due to the possibility of cancer showing up. It is so vital that we need this coverage and the rates to not go up anymore, as it is now, I had to pay the full deductibles and copays the last two years which was very hard on us as it is already. I had to pay out for the monthly payment each month plus $15,000 in copays and deductibles which was very hard to do already with these rates. I can’t even imagine how hard it will be to have to pay more, I am on a fixed income, and everything is just getting so hard to keep up.

I am a retired single divorced 59-year-old who is not eligible for Medicare and it is too expensive to get my health coverage through anywhere else. I need to be able to keep costs affordable to have insurance for myself.

My husband and I solely rely on Pennie. His employer does NOT offer health insurance. We appreciate the affordable cost through Pennie. If the cost goes up too much and we can’t afford it we’ll have to let our health take a back seat.

I am unable to work full time because my husband requires a great deal of help due to his chronic illness. Having Pennie and these enhanced savings to keep my premiums affordable has been a huge help!
