Congressional failure to extend these tax breaks will be a HUGE expense on my family and threaten my business as well. I co-own a mental health practice and both my business partner, and I receive our insurance through Pennie. Our expenses will literally go up tens of thousands of dollars, which will impact on our business bottom line and impact our ability to remain profitable. We cannot afford to have a 30K+ increase in health care costs when we’re already paying so much for coverage now.
It not only hurts hardworking middle-class Americans but also severely harms the small businesses who rely on this coverage as well as people who don’t have the ability to access employee sponsored plans. This law needs to be extended for the very life of our business and mental health of our community.

I have been a lifelong conservative Republican for 100 years going back. I understand that the country’s debt is astronomical. Cutting back on things that don’t affect people’s daily cost of living are certainly warranted. But as someone who’s paid for health insurance as an individual & then a family for about 35 years as an independent contractor ever since I got off my parent’s plan eons ago…the current monthly costs of health insurance are BEYOND what I could ever afford without help.
I’m all for cutting out billions of wasted dollars for nonsense. But healthcare? No way people can pay the astronomical costs anymore. It would change lives in such a negative way that people will just give up unless someone figures out how to lower the costs.

My partner and I started a family this year and recently welcomed our little girl into the world. My coverage and tax credit through Pennie has allowed me to get excellent healthcare that supported my well-being during and after my pregnancy, all while helping me save as much of my earnings as I can for the future. If the costs rise as much as is suggested, I may not be able to afford any health insurance next year without going through my entire savings. I worry about the future of my family if I am unable to afford health insurance, even as a productive and employed Pennsylvania citizen. Every single person deserves access to fair and affordable healthcare without going bankrupt just to survive!

Pennie has made it possible to afford quality Healthcare insurance. Getting older and finding ourselves doctoring more, we would not be able to follow through with recommended treatments or medications without assistance. We are the people left out. We worked hard all our lives, paid our bills and never qualified for public assistance. Even in some troubled times, we had to scrape our way. Lazy people are given handouts like free food, money, insurance, free phones and cars. We don’t ask for much, just the ability to stay healthy given the high costs of medical care.

Our mortgage is $2,099/month, and we have $1,500/month in car payments. We pay $600/month through Pennie for health insurance, which is the only plan we can afford. The insurance options through our jobs would cost around $700 every paycheck—that’s over $18,000 a year, which is simply out of reach.

When I retired my intention was to stay on my employer’s insurance plan. The cost for me as an individual was going to be over $1,300 per month. Through the Pennie program, I was able to reduce that cost by approximately $10,000 per year. Pennie has been a blessing and a godsend in allowing me to have what I would call a reasonable and affordable health care plan. It is extremely disappointing and concerning to see that this program expires. I am very concerned about what next year’s costs are going to be.

There is no way we can afford any of the necessary medications without insurance. Raising the cost of Pennie would cause me to not have insurance, it would be less expensive to pay out of pocket for my healthcare and put the monthly payment that I would send to Pennie in the bank? Hopefully nothing serious would happen regarding my health.

I have worked full-time my whole adult life. When I was 61 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My place of employment would not hold my job while I was undergoing treatment. I had 2 surgeries, chemo, radiation, and now I am on oral medication for 5 years. After COBRA expired, we started on Pennie. With my pre-existing condition we rely on Pennie. We are currently not eligible for Medicare. I don’t expect free medical insurance, but it is very helpful to us with all the price increases to have our medical insurance subsidized, which we desperately need.

I do not qualify for Medicare yet and would not be able to afford health insurance if It wasn’t for the assistance from Pennie. It is very disappointing that the government won’t make this a permanent policy to help the American people who need it be able to afford to live and still have health insurance.

Without the low-cost insurance, we will not be able to have coverage and that is terrifying to us at our age, but we simply cannot afford any increase in premiums. In the long run the number of uninsured residents is going to rise as we are not the only ones who won’t be able to afford coverage, which will end up costing the country so much more money.

Pennie has helped us have affordable health insurance, I’m not sure what we will do in 2026 if it becomes unaffordable. With rising costs of heating and electricity, we will really have to evaluate what we can do without. In 2023 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, having this plan helped me not to worry about my treatment costs along with able pay which made it easy to make payments on my treatment. I pray that it does not re-occur without health insurance I will not be able to fight it.

As a small business owner and the sole income of my household I work nearly every day of the week and well over 60 hours a week, yet there are no financial perks like vacation, sick leave, retirement plan, health coverage provided, every dollar earned is stretched to cover all the bases today and for tomorrow. As a result of early retirement, Pennie has enabled us to get medical coverage at an affordable rate. Otherwise, we would have to deplete our retirement savings. The typical increases each year are a concern but losing the credit would be a devasting factor for our finances. Pennie has been factored into our financial plans to get us to when we qualify for Medicare. To change this up is unfair to the citizens.

Pennie was there when I needed health insurance coverage. You see, I’m in recovery. Also, with mental health issues due to trauma. Pennie helped ease my mind when my other insurance gave me 3 days till they were cutting me off. Because of Pennie I can still see my trauma therapist, go to D & A outpatient group, see my D & A counselor, go to my primary doctor, and see my psychiatrist. Which I see for my mental health medications. Pennie was & still is a big help to me. If it wasn’t for them, who knows what would’ve happened to me. I will be celebrating my 2 years sober & clean in recovery in September.

It is so vital that we need this coverage and the rates to not go up anymore, as it is now, I had to pay the full deductibles and copays the last two years which was very hard on us as it is already. I had to pay out for the monthly payment each month plus $15,000 in copays and deductibles which was very hard to do already with these rates. I can’t even imagine how hard it will be to have to pay more, I am on a fixed income, and everything is just getting so hard to keep up.
